SU Update, Nats Host Mets On Opening Day, NCAA Big Dance Resumes
In Shenandoah University Athletic news, Field Hockey players Hailey Colt, Katie Garman, and Hannah Mink were named as Scholars of Distinction yesterday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. All 3 have perfect 4.0 GPA’s and are among just 268 across Division 3 to earn the honor.
Today, Franklin & Marshall visits SU for a 4pm baseball game at Bridgeforth Field.
Max Scherzer squares off against last year’s NL Cy Young winner Jacob DeGrom as the Washington Nationals host the New York Mets on Opening Day. The Nats begin life without Bryce Harper and are coming off an 82-80 season in 2018. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 this afternoon, with a 12:35 air time on Sports Radio 1450.
The Baltimore Orioles try to erase the memory of last year’s disastrous 115-loss season when they travel to Yankee Stadium this afternoon at 1:05. The O’s begin this year under new manager Brandon Hyde.
The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament resumes tonight with the Sweet Sixteen. Virginia takes on Oregon tonight just before 10pm, while Virginia Tech plays Duke tomorrow night.
The Washington Capitals are in Carolina tonight to take on the Hurricanes. The Caps continue to lead a tight Metro Division race, with a 3 point lead on both the Islanders and Pens. Air time tonight is 6:45 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
And…the WVU Women bowed out of the Women’s NIT last night with a 56-54 loss to Northwestern. The Virginia Tech women will play at JMU tonight in an NIT matchup, as Hokie coach Kenny Brooks returns to his alma mater.
