Florida Welcomes Sports, PGA Safety, Fake Crowd Noise For Games

One day after Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said pro sports could resume in his state without fans, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said he’s ready to do the same. During a news conference yesterday, DeSantis said “one thing I’m going to do, probably this week, is all professional sports are welcome here for practicing and for playing.”
He added, “I think we can certainly do it in a way that’s been safe.”

The PGA Tour yesterday outlined the safety procedures it will have in place when it returns next month. Players, caddies, and key staff will be tested once a week for the coronavirus; Everyone at the golf course will have their temperature taken every day; No spectators for at least a month; no family members; and social distancing everywhere. The Tour resumes with the Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas on June 8th.

And during a radio interview yesterday, broadcaster Joe Buck said that Fox Sports plans to pipe in crowd noise and reactions during their broadcasts of games when they resume without fans. Virtual fans will also be projected onto empty stadiums, according to Buck, who said “it’s pretty much a done deal.”
