Nats Crush Braves, O’s Drop Series To Tigers, VBL Set To Go
The Washington Nationals pounded out 15 hits and got another quality outing from a starting pitcher in a 14-4 rout of the Atlanta Braves last night. Howie Kendrick drove in 4 runs, Trea Turner had 3 hits, and Matt Adams & Juan Soto hit home runs to power the Nats to their 5th win in 6 games. Former Brave Anibal Sanchez retired the first 16
batters he faced on the way to a 1-hit, 6 inning performance, as the Nationals swept the 2 game series in Atlanta. The Nats have the day off today before starting a weekend series in Cincinnati. Friday’s air time is 6:40 on Sports Radio 1450.
The Baltimore Orioles surrendered a late lead and lost to the Detroit Tigers last night 4-2 at Camden Yards. The Birds wasted a 6-inning quality start from John Means, as the O’s bullpen gave up 1 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th. The Orioles return to action tomorrow night when they host the Giants.
Another season of Valley League baseball begins tomorrow around the area. The NCAA and MLB-sanctioned Summer league was founded in 1897 and includes teams from Winchester, Front Royal, Strasburg, and Woodstock.
