Caps Rout Bruins In Opener…Yanks Eliminate A’s…NFL Week 5 Begins
On the Shenandoah University sports slate yesterday:
Women’s Soccer kicked Hollins 12-0
And Field Hockey nipped Bridgewater 2-1
Today…Shenandoah entertains Randolph-Macon in a homecoming Women’s Volleyball match.
SU Football is back in action Saturday in a Homecoming ODAC battle against Hampden-Sydney. Air time is 12:30 on the River 95-3.
The Washington Capitals began defense of their Stanley Cup title by routing the Boston Bruins 7-0 last night in DC. T.J. Oshie opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the game, Evgeny Kuznetsov scored 2 goals, and Braden Holtby stopped 24 shots for the Caps, who are back at it tonight in Pittsburgh. Face off is at 7 on NBC SportsRadio 1450.
In the MLB Playoffs, the Yankees eliminated the Oakland A’s in the AL Wild Card Game last night 7-2. Aaron Judge hit a 2-run homer in the first inning to spark the Yanks, who now move on to the Divisional round against rival Boston. There are 2 NL Divisional games on tap today, as Colorado visits Milwaukee at 5:07, and it’s Atlanta at LA just after 8:30.
In the NFL Thursday Night matchup, It’s Tom Brady versus Andrew Luck as the Colts take on New England. The Colts have struggled to a 1-3 start, while New England is 2-2.
And, tonight at 7 it’s the award-winning “Sports Dogs After Hours” on The River 95-3. Janet Michael is guest-host, and talks to Mike Smith, Clarke County High baseball coach, recently named as the manager of the Winchester Royals for 2019.
