Nats Win In Extra Innings, O’s Stifle Braves, US Open Gets Underway
Luis Garcia’s 2-run homer in the 10th proved to be the game-winner yesterday as the Washington Nationals beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2.
The Nats took a 2-1 lead into the 9th only to see the Rays plate the tying run, setting up Garcia’s blast in the 10th. Kyle McGowin then came on to strike out the side in the bottom of the frame. The Nationals have the day off before playing 5 games in Miami, including a doubleheader tomorrow. Air time is 4:40 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
Five Oriole pitchers held the Atlanta Braves to just one run on six hits in a 5-1 win yesterday. Renato Nunez drove in 2 runs to lead the Baltimore attack. The Birds take on Tampa Bay today at 4:35.
The 120th US Open Golf Tournament gets underway today at the famed Winged Foot Golf Club in New York. One of the favorites will be the world’s number-one player, Dustin Johnson. In his last 3 starts, DJ has won twice, and lost in a playoff. The US Open was originally scheduled for June.
The Bengals take on the Browns tonight in the NFL Thursday Night game.
And, in a reversal of it’s previous decision to postpone the season until Spring, The Big Ten Conference announced yesterday that it will now play football this Fall.
