Phils Rout Nats, Boston Beats Birds, NFL Weekend Begins Tonight
The Philadelphia Phillies clubbed five home runs, including two by Bryce Harper, in a 12-3 rout of the Washington Nationals last night.
Philly broke open a tight contest by scoring 9 runs in the final 2 innings to avoid a 4-game sweep by the Nats. Juan Soto hit his 13th home run of the season in the losing effort. The Nationals wrap up the season with a 4-game set against the Mets starting tonight at 5:35 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
A 6-run third inning propelled the Boston Red Sox to a 9-1 win over Baltimore last night. The Birds actually out-hit the Sox 11-10, but fell to 23-33 on the season. The 2 teams conclude their 3-game series tonight at 7:30.
The NFL weekend begins tonight with a battle of Florida teams. The 0-2 Miami Dolphins travel north to take on the 1-1 Jacksonville Jaguars. The game will be played in front of a limited number of fans. Kickoff is at 8:20.
And, the football world is mourning the passing of “The Kansas Comet,” Gale Sayers. The pro football Hall-Of-Famer, whose friendship with Bears’ running back Brian Piccolo was depicted in the film “Brian’s Song,” died of dementia at 77.
