Nats Blanked Again, O’s Fall To Mets, Open Results
The Washington Nationals were shut out for the second straight night by the Philadelphia Phillies, this time 3-0. Zack Wheeler outdueled Max Scherzer, holding the Nats to just 3 hits in six and two-thirds innings of work. The Nationals are now 12-22 in this shortened 60-game season and in dead last in the NL East. The 2 teams play the series finale this afternoon starting at 3:35 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
The Baltimore Orioles saw the New York Mets end their 5-game losing skid in a 9-4 Mets win yesterday afternoon. Michael Conforto led the 14-hit New York attack by going 4-for-5 and driving in 5 runs. The
O’s are off today before hosting the Yankees tomorrow at 5:05.
At the US Open Tennis Tournament yesterday in Queens, New York, top women’s seed Karolina Pliskova lost to 50th ranked Caroline Garcia in straight sets. Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka and Novak Djokovic advanced.
And, the sports world is mourning the loss of baseball’s “Tom Terrific,” Tom Seaver. The 3-time Cy Young winner, who pitched for the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, died this week from dementia and coronavirus. Seaver led the 1969 “Miracle Mets” to the World Series title. he was 75.
