UVA Captures NCAA Crown, Nats Drop Game 1 To Phils, SU Update

Junior Gerard DePhillips has been named ODAC Pitcher of the Week in selections announced yesterday by the league. DePhillips had 3 saves last week in 3 appearances, including 2 ODAC games. The New Jersey product leads all of Division-III with 8 saves.
Hornet baseball returns to action this afternoon at 4 with a home game against Bridgewater. Women’s tennis is also in action against Sweet Briar.
388 days after suffering their infamous loss to 16-seed UMBC, the Virginia Cavaliers are the champions of the college basketball world, with a thrilling 85-77 overtime victory against Texas Tech in the NCAA Championship game. The Cavaliers got 27 points from DeAndre Hunter and scored the final 11 points in the extra period to capture their first-ever men’s basketball title. UVA finishes at 35-3, while the Red Raiders complete their season at 31-7.
Rhys Hoskins blasted 2 home runs as the Philadelphia Phillies nipped the Washington Nationals last night 4-3. The Nats took an early 2-0 lead on a Kurt Suzuki homer, but did not score again until the 9th inning, when Brian Dozier hit his first home run of the year. The Nationals and Phillies play game 2 of the series tonight on Sports Radio 1450. Air time is 6:35.
The Baltimore Orioles broke a 4-game losing streak with a 12-4 rout of Oakland at Camden Yards. The 5-5 Birds pounded out 15 hits in front of only 6,585 fans, and try to get over the .500 mark when the two teams meet again tonight at 7:05.
