Bruins Cool Off Caps, Pack Wins NFC North, Herd Falls in Gasparilla
The Boston Bruins skated to a 5-0 lead and cruised to a 7-3 rout of the Washington Capitals last night. The game was low-lighted by a third period melee between the two teams, after which the Cap’s Tom Wilson was given a 10-minute game misconduct penalty. Alex Ovechkin scored one of the 3 goals for Washington, which fell to 26-7-5 on the season. Next up for the Capitals, who skate again Friday at home against Columbus. Air time is 6:45 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
The Green Bay Packers are the champions of the NFC North, after defeating the Minnesota Vikings last night 23-10. The Packers defense held Kirk Cousins to just 122 yards passing, as the former Redskin saw his prime time record fall to 7-15. Aaron Jones rushed for 154 yards for the victors. Despite the loss, the Vikings are still assured an NFC Wild Card berth.
In other NFL news, Washington redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been ruled out for the season finale against Dallas. Haskins suffered an ankle injury Sunday in the loss to New York. Backup Case Keenum will get the nod for the 3-12 ‘Skins in the must-win game for the Cowboys.
And, the Marshall Thundering Herd were defeated by UCF 48-25 in the Gasparilla Bowl. The Herd sees their season end at 8-5. In college bowl action today, Hawaii hosts BYU in the Hawaii Bowl. Kickoff is set for 8pm.
