Haskins Released, Bills Trounce Pats, More Bowl Games Today
One day after the Washington Football Team’s loss to the Carolina Panthers, the team released quarterback Dwayne Haskins. The first-round draft choice, who violated the NFL’s COVID protocol last week by attending a strip club without a mask, threw 2 interceptions and fumbled once in the 20-13 defeat Sunday, before skipping his media obligations after the game. Haskins will still collect the remainder of his $14 million guaranteed contract with the team. Meanwhile, Washington will start either Alex Smith or Taylor Hienicke against the Eagles on Sunday night. A WFT win gives them the NFC East crown and a playoff bid.
In the NFL Monday Night game, Josh Allen threw for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns, as the Buffalo Bills crushed New England 38-9. The Patriots were held to just 201 yards, including 34 yards passing by Cam Newton. Buffalo improved to 12-3, while New England fell to 6-9.
The college bowl season resumes today with a couple of games. At 5:30, number 18 Miami takes on number-21 Oklahoma State in the Cheez-It Bowl. And, in the Valero Alamo Bowl at 9, number-20 Texas battles Colorado.
And, in college hoop, number-24 Virginia Tech hosts Miami at 6pm, while number-9 WVU entertains Northeastern at 2.
