Area Hoop Scoreboard, SU Women Roll, Caps-Flyers Tonight

In area girl’s high school basketball yesterday, Rappahannock routed William Campbell 57-17, Luray downed Stuarts Draft 67-29, it was Page over Strasburg 57-36, and Brentsville shaded Skyline 38-35.

In boy’s hoop, Page beat Madison 67-51, Monroe powered past Central 67-39, Buffalo Gap got past Strasburg 49-43, and East Rockingham cruised in a 76-43 win over Clarke.

The Shenandoah University Women led wire-to-wire in a 61-43 ODAC win over Ferrum last night at Wilkins Center. SU raced out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back in earning it’s first league win. Sarah Sondrol led a balanced Hornet attack with 13 points.

The Shenandoah men entertain Christopher Newport tonight at 6. Mike O’Dell and Dick Helm provide the play-by-play tonight on The River 95-3.

Virginia moved into the top 10 in the latest AP College Basketball Poll. The Cavaliers jumped 5 spots this week to number-9. Virginia Tech fell 2 spots to number-18, while WVU rose 3 spots to number-14. The Mountaineers continue their gauntlet of ranked teams tonight when they play at 7th-ranked Texas Tech at 9.

And, the Washington Capitals try to break a 3-game losing skid tonight when they skate against the Philadelphia Flyers. The 6-3-3 Caps are currently in third place in the NHL’s East Division with 15 points. The puck drops at 6.
