Nats Top O’s, Fauci To Throw First Pitch, NFL Testing
Stephen Strasburg pitched 5 innings of 6-strikeout baseball, and Howie Kendrick blasted a 2-run homer as the Washington Nationals doubled up Baltimore 4-2 in an MLB exhibition game last night at Camden Yards. The Nats will open the shortened regular season Thursday night when they host the New York Yankees on CBS Sports Radio 1450. First pitch is 7:08.
In other Nationals’ news, the club announced that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Thursday night’s opener between the Nats and Yankees. Fauci is a fan of the World Series champs, and has been a trusted voice during the coronavirus pandemic.
The NFL and its players have agreed to daily coronavirus testing for th first two weeks of training camp, and after that, if the positive rate is below 5 percent, every other day, according to ESPN. The league also yesterday offered the players’ union to not play any preseason games, something the players have been pushing for.
And, the NBA and its’ players union said yesterday that there were no positive coronavirus test results among 346 players tested since July 13th at its bubble campus in Orlando, where games are set to resume July 30th.
