VBL Scoreboard, Nats End 4-Game Losing Streak, Wimbledon Results

In the Valley Baseball League last night, Front Royal out-slugged Winchester 14-9, New Market pounded Purcellville 12-3, and Strasburg stopped Woodstock 6-1.

Tonight in the VBL, games include Purcellville at Front Royal, Winchester at Strasburg, and New Market at Woodstock. The Valley League plays it’s annual All-Star Game Sunday in Harrisonburg.

After being swept in a 4-game weekend series by the Dodgers, the Washington Nationals started a 7-game road trip last night with a 7-5 win at San Diego. Josh Bell led the way for the Nats with 3 hits and 2 RBI. 6 Washington pitchers held the Padres in check, including Brad Hand, who picked up his 19th save of the season. The two teams play again tonight starting at 9:40 on Sports Radio 1450.

The Baltimore Orioles had the day off yesterday. They’ll return to action tonight against Toronto. First pitch is 7:05 at Camden Yards.

And top-seed Novak Djokovic advanced at Wimbledon, as did sixth-seed Roger Federer, and top-seeded woman Ash Barty. At 39, Federer is the oldest to make it to the Wimbledon quarterfinals in the Open era.
