VBL Starts Second Half, Midsummer Classic Tonight, Coco Eliminated
There were several Valley League baseball games last night as the league began it’s second half:
Strasburg blanked Winchester 9-0
Waynesboro outscored Charlottesville 11-5

Purcellville hosts New Market
and Harrisonburg heads to Charlottesville
The New York Mets’ Pete Alonso hit 3 walk-off homers last night to win the MLB All-Star Game’s Home Run Derby. The Derby was highlighted by an epic matchup between Vladimir Gurerro, Jr. and Joc Pederson that required 3 tie-breaker rounds before Gurerro prevailed 40-39.
The so called “Midsummer Classic” takes place tonight in Cleveland as the National League squares off against the American League in the MLB All-Star Game. The National’s Max Scherzer will not pitch tonight for the NL because of a back injury, and the Nat’s Anthony Rendon is also skipping the game.
And, at Wimbledon, there was little drama on the men’s side as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer easily advanced to the quarterfinals. On the Women’s side, 15 year-old Coco Gauff was eliminated yesterday by Simona Halep, while Serena Williams moved on to the quarterfinals. She’ll face unseeded American Alison Riske, who eliminated number-one seed Ashleigh Barty. The women’s quartefinal matches take place today.
