NCAA Tourney Begins, Women’s Field Selected, Wiz Routed

No action yesterday on the SU sports scene, and all is quiet today. Softball will host Eastern Mennonite in an ODAC doubleheader tomorrow, while baseball will travel to Bridgewater.

The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament officially gets underway tonight with the so-called “First Four” in Dayton, Ohio. Tonight, Prairie View A&M takes on Fairleigh Dickinson followed by St. Johns against Arizona State. There are 2 more play-in games tomorrow before the tournament gets underway in earnest on Thursday.

The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament field was revealed last night, and Baylor, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Mississippi State are the four number-one seeds. The only Virginia team to make the women’s field was 26-6 Radford, who will take on Maryland Saturday.
Of note, UConn’s number 2 seeding marks the first time since 2006 that they were not a number-one seed.

The Wizards were routed by Utah last night in DC, 116-95, as they fall to 30-41 on the year.

The Capitals are in New Jersey tonight to face the Devils. The Caps are currently tied with the Islanders for first place in the Metro Division with 91 points. Air time tonight is 7:15 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.

The Nats take on the Braves today in Spring Training baseball. Opening Day is next Thursday when the Nationals host the New York Mets on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
