SU Track Accolades, Cavs Trounce Orange, Hokies At FSU Tonight
Shenandoah University senior Shamyra Wilkerson and sophomore Jason White earned all-region track & field honors yesterday in selections made by the USTFCCCA. Wilkerson was honored for the 200 & 60 meter dashes, while White was named all-region for the triple jump for the second straight year. Wilkerson will compete this weekend in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston.
Nothing on the SU schedule today. The men and women’s lacrosse teams will both play tomorrow on the Sprint Field of Shentel Stadium.
The Virginia Cavaliers sit at number 2 in the latest AP College Basketball Poll. The ‘Hoos are right behind Gonzaga, who stayed firm at number one this week. the Virginia Tech Hokies are at number 15.
On the court, the Cavs routed Syracuse last night 79-53 in New York. Virginia, which trailed the Orange 34-32 at the half, outscored Syracuse 47-19 after the break. UVA tied a school record with 18 3-pointers in the victory, shooting a blazing 72 percent from beyond the arc.
Virginia Tech plays at number 14 Florida State tonight at 7. On the line is a double-bye in the upcoming ACC tournament.
And, the Washington Nationals entertain Boston this afternoon in Spring Training baseball. The Nats take on the New York Mets March 28th on Opening Day, and you can catch Nats play-by-play again this year on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
