Area HS Football Pairings, SU Hoop Heads To CNU, Caps Fall In Shootout
In high school football, the VHSL playoff pairings have been announced for this weekend.
In Class 4, Region C:

Handley hosts Loudoun Valley
In Class 3, Region B:
Warren County plays at Goochland
Woodstock travels to James Monroe
Skyline visits William Monroe
In Class 2, Region B:
Clarke hosts East Rockingham
Page plays at Buckingham County
Strasburg travels to Luray
On the Shenandoah University sports scene, Men’s Basketball travels to Christopher Newport tonight for a 5:30 tip. Air time is 5:10 on The River 95-3. The Hornets dropped their season opener Friday at Mary Washington.
SU Football gets back in action Saturday with a home contest against Washington & Lee. Shenandoah is 5-3 overall, and 4-3 in the ODAC. Air time is 12:30 on the River 95-3. It’s also Senior Day at Shentel.
The Washington Capitals saw their 6-game winning streak come to an end last night in a 4-3 shootout loss to Arizona. Down 3-0, the Caps chipped away with 2 goals by Evgeny Kuznetzov and sent the game into overtime with a goal by T.J. Oshie with less than 2 minutes left in regulation. Oshie’s apparent game-winning goal in OT was waved off, and the Caps lost the shootout 2-0. Next up for Washington, a 7:30 skate tomorrow against Philadelphia on Sports Radio 1450.
And, the San Francisco 49ers lost for the first time this season, a 27-24 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.
The ‘Niners are now 8-1, just a half game up on the 8-2 Seahawks in the NFC West.
