Caps Skate Past Islanders, Texans Win on MNF, CFP Rankings Tonite
The Washington Capitals extended their winning streak to 6 in a 4-1 win against the New York Islanders last night. The Caps got 2 goals from Tom Wilson, and broke open a tight game with 2 tallies in the third period to stay atop the NHL’s Metro Division. Before the game, the Caps presented a Stanley Cup ring to last year’s head coach Barry Trotz, who is now behind the bench for the Islanders. The Caps entertain the New Jersey Devils Friday. Air time is 6:45 on NBC SportsRadio 1450.
The Houston Texans won their 8th straight game, as they erased an early 10-0 Tennessee lead and beat the Titans 34-17 on Monday Night Football. Deshaun Watson tossed 2 TD passes and Lamar Thomas had a 97-yard touchdown run for Houston, who improved to 8-3 on the season.
The Titans fall to 5-6.
Alabama is expected to hold on to the top spot when the next-to-last College Football Playoff rankings are released tonight. Clemson and Notre Dame are also expected to stay in the top 4. Michigan will almost surely drop out of the 4th spot after losing Saturday to Ohio State. The final CFP rankings will be released after this weekend’s conference championship games.
The Washington Wizards outgunned the Houston Rockets last night, 135-131 in OT. John Wall and Bradley Beal combined for 68 points as Washington improved to 8-12.
And Shenandoah University men’s basketball returns to the Wilkins Center Wednesday night as part of a doubleheader. The Hornet women play at 5 against defending ODAC champ Randolph-Macon, and the SU men take on former USA South rival CNU at 7. Air time is 6:50 on The River 95-3.
