Nats One Win Away From Fall Classic, SU Scoreboard, Pack Nip Lions
On the Shenandoah University sports scene:
Men’s golf is in 6th place after day 1 of the VSGA Intercollegiate Championship at the Blacksburg Country Club after a collective 298 yesterday. Day 2 of that tournament is today.
Senior Emily Yergin was named ODAC Player Of The Week for women’s soccer in slections made by the league yesterday. Yergin, a 3-time All-ODAC honoree, scored five goals last week in wins over Hollins and Guilford.
Men’s soccer hosts Virginia Wesleyan this afternoon at 5.
The Washington Nationals are just one win away from the World Series after an 8-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 3 of the NLCS. Stephen Strasburg was the latest Nats starter to shut down the Cardinals, allowing just 1 unearned run in 7 innings and striking out 12. Howie Kendrick belted 3 doubles and Ryan Zimmerman drove in 2 runs for Washington, who go for the sweep tonight at Nats Park. Air time is 7:30 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
The Green Bay Packers took advantage of several controversial penalties and a game-winning field goal from Mason Crosby to nip the Detroit Lions 23-22 in the NFL Monday Night game. Aaron Rodgers threw for 283 yards and 2 scores for the Pack, who improved to 5-1. The Lions fall to 2-2-1 on the season.
And, the Colorado Avalanche tallied 4 goals in the first period and doubled up the Capitals yesterday 6-3. Next up for the Caps, a 7pm skate tomorrow against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
