Week 1 of the NFL season is in the books following a Monday Night Football doubleheader. In the opener, Drew Brees marched New Orleans to a game-winning Wil Lutz field goal as the Saints stunned the Houston Texans 30-28. The 40 year-old Brees was 32-of 43 for 370 yards and 2 scores. His counterpart, Deshaun Watson threw for 268 yards, including what appeared to be the game-winning TD pass with under a minute left.
In the nightcap, Oakland quarterback Derek Carr threw for 259 yards and a touchdown as the Raiders beat Denver 24-16. The Broncos had 4 trips inside the red zone in the contest, but only came away with 1 touchdown. Broncos QB Joe Flacco was 21-of-31 in a losing effort.
The Washington Nationals continue their stretch run tonight with a trip to Minnesota. The Nats are currently 79-63 on the season, and lead the NL Wild Card race by 2 and 1/2 games over the Chicago Cubs. Washington sends Anibal Sanchez to the mound tonight against the AL Central leaders, who are 88-55. Air time is 7:10 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
