NFL Week 1 Concludes, Nats Head To Minnesota, SU Preps For Opener

Week 1 of the NFL season is in the books following a Monday Night Football doubleheader. In the opener, Drew Brees marched New Orleans to a game-winning Wil Lutz field goal as the Saints stunned the Houston Texans 30-28. The 40 year-old Brees was 32-of 43 for 370 yards and 2 scores. His counterpart, Deshaun Watson threw for 268 yards, including what appeared to be the game-winning TD pass with under a minute left.

In the nightcap, Oakland quarterback Derek Carr threw for 259 yards and a touchdown as the Raiders beat Denver 24-16. The Broncos had 4 trips inside the red zone in the contest, but only came away with 1 touchdown. Broncos QB Joe Flacco was 21-of-31 in a losing effort.

The Washington Nationals continue their stretch run tonight with a trip to Minnesota. The Nats are currently 79-63 on the season, and lead the NL Wild Card race by 2 and 1/2 games over the Chicago Cubs. Washington sends Anibal Sanchez to the mound tonight against the AL Central leaders, who are 88-55. Air time is 7:10 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.

The Orioles host the mighty LA Dodgers tonight at Camden Yards. First pitch is 7:05.

And the Shenandoah University Hornets will finally open their 2019 football season this Saturday at NC Wesleyan. Last week’s scheduled game was cancelled when Methodist University closed it’s campus in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian. Air time Saturday from Rocky Mount is 11:30 am on The River 95-3, WZRV.
