Scherzer Stings Rays, O’s-Mets Tonight, DJ Takes Tour Championship
Max Scherzer tossed 7 shutout innings and struck out 8 as the Washington Nationals defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1 last night. Scherzer’s battery mate Kurt Suzuki led the Nats’ 10-hit attack with a 3-for-4 night as Washington improved to 15-25. The Nationals take on the AL East leaders again tonight in DC starting at 5:35 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
Meanwhile the Baltimore Orioles, who took 3-of-4 from the New York Yankees this weekend, had yesterday off. The 19-21 Birds are in the Big Apple tonight to take on the Mets at 7:10.
Dustin Johnson captured the PGA’s Tour Championship yesterday in Atlanta, holding off a star-studded field. With the victory, DJ wins the Fed-Ex Cup and $15 million. In his last 3 events, Johnson, the world’s number-one player, has 2 wins and a playoff loss. Xander Schauffle and Justin Thomas tied for second, 3 shots back.
And, at the US Open tennis tournament yesterday, 3rd-seed Serena Williams advanced with a 3-set win over Maria Sakkari of Greece.
