Larson Fired, Tour Postponed, MLB To Take Part In Virus Study
NASCAR driver Kyle Larson was fired yesterday by Chip Ganassi Racing after being dropped by all his sposors for using a racial slur during a Sunday virtual racing event. Ganassi said the move was an emotional call, but had little choice. Larson was suspended by Ganassi & NASCAR Monday, and later posted a video apology.
Cycling’s most prestigious race, the Tour de France, is being postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the 3-week event could still take place this year. French media reported last night that a new start date had been set for late August into September. The Tour had been set to start June 27th.
Players and employees of Major League Baseball teams are taking part in a large study that will test up to 10,000 people for coronavirus antibodies. The goal is to get a better idea of how widespread the disease is in major US metropolitan areas by using a big nationwide sample. The study is being run by USC, Stanford, and the Sports Medicine Research & Testing Lab.
And, organizers of the Tokyo Olympics say they have no Plan-B if the games have to be delayed again due to the pandemic. The Olympics were postponed from July of this year to July 2021, and spokesperson said they are moving forward under the assumption that the Games will open on July 23rd of next year.
