SU Update, Caps Blank Isles, Nats Fall To Jays

On the Shenandoah University sports scene, nationally-ranked baseball stayed at number 15 in the latest D3 Baseball Dot Com poll. The Hornets are 22-7 and are the top ODAC team in the poll, ahead of number 17 Randolph Macon.

Tonight, 3-seed SU Women’s Lacrosse entertains 7-seed Randolph-Macon in the ODAC quarterfinals. Match time is 7pm on the Sprint Field of Shentel Stadium.

The Washington Capitals got a first period goal from Daniel Sprong, and made it hold up in a 1-0 win over the New York Islanders. Vitek Vanecek stopped all 18 Islander shots to record the shutout for the 32-13-4 Caps, who moved back into first place in the NHL’s Eastern Division. The Capitals are back on the ice tomorrow in a big game against Pittsburgh. Air time is 6:45 on the River 95-3.

The Washington Nationals gave up an early 3-0 lead in a 9-5 loss to Toronto. Max Scherzer struggled for the Nats, giving up 5 earned runs in 5 innings of work. The Nats and Jays play game 2 of the midweek series tonight starting at 6:37 on Sports Radio 1450.

And the Baltimore Orioles were stopped by the New York Yankees last night 5-1. The 2 teams play again tonight at 7:05 at Camden Yards.
