Bucs Cool Off Nats, South Riding LL Plays Tonight, WVU Names Starter
The Pittsburgh Pirates held the Washington Nationals to just 1 run last night in a 4-1 Bucs win. The Nats, who had scored 62 runs in their last 5 games, took a 1-0 lead on Anthony Rendon’s RBI double in the 5th, and held that lead until the dreaded 8th inning. That’s when Wander Suero loaded the bases, and Daniel Hudson surrendered a sac fly, followed by Starling Marte’s 3-run homer. The bullpen meltdown spoiled 7 shutout innings by Stephen Strasburg. The Nats are in Pittsburgh for game 3 tonight, starting at 6:35 on Sports Radio 1450.
The Baltimore Orioles scored a tying run in the 7th, followed by 3 more in the 8th, for a 4-1 home win against Kansas City last night. The win was just the 40th on the season for the Birds, who host the Royals again tonight at 7:05.
The South Riding All-Stars are back in action tonight in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. The Southeast Region champs from Loudoun County take on the West champions from Hawaii tonight at 7:30. The winner will advance to the US title game, while the loser will play an elimination contest for the right to play for the US championship.
And, from the world of college football, WVU Head Coach Neal Brown has named Oklahoma transfer Austin Kendall as the team’s starting quarterback. The Mounties open the 2019 season next Saturday, when they host JMU.
