Nats Trade Murphy, Difo Steps In, Smith Suspended…
The Washington Nationals made some off-the-field news yesterday by trading Daniel Murphy to the Cubs, and Matt Adams to the Cardinals for prospects and cash. The Nats decided to hold on to Bryce Harper for the last 6 weeks of the season. The trades seem to signal a resignation by the Nationals that 2018 is now a lost season…
However, Wilmer Difo, replacing the traded Murphy, hit the go-ahead home run last night to give the Nationals a 5-4 win over Philadelphia. Andrew Stevenson, literally on the way to the ballpark during a lengthy rain delay, hit the tying 2-run blast for the Nationals. The Nats & Phils play again tonight in DC, Air time 6:30 on NBC Sports Radio 1450.
The Orioles were clobbered by Toronto last night 8-2. The O’s are now 1-11 against the Jays, including 0-9 at the Rogers Center. The tow teams play the series finale today at 12:37.
The NFL has suspended Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith for the first 4 games of the season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The suspension is the result of a domestic violence incident last year.
The Redskins are preparing for their Week-3 preseason game against Denver Friday night. Newly-signed running back Adrian Peterson practiced with the team for the first time yesterday. Kickoff Friday is 7:30 at Fed-Ex Field.
And, area High School football kicks off this Friday. Skyline takes on Central on NBC Sports radio 1450. Air time is 6:50.
