Nats Beat Mets, Marlins Blank O’s, No Fans At Indy

The Washington Nationals evened their record at 4-4 with a 5-3 win over the New York Mets last night in DC. Patrick Corbin picked up his first win of the year, striking out eight in 5 & 2/3 innings of work.
Howie Kendrick and newcomer Josh Harrison homered for the Nats, who take on the Mets again tonight. Air time is 5:35 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.

The Miami Marlins returned from their coronavirus quarantine, and blanked the Baltimore Orioles last night 4-0. The Birds managed just 3 hits against Miami starter Pablo Lopez and four Marlins relievers, as they fall to 5-4 on the season. The 2 teams play game two of the series tonight at 5:05.

There will be no fans at the Indianapolis 500 after Roger Penske, who bought the iconic track in January, changed his mind. At one point Penske said that fans would be allowed at the August 23rd race at 50 percent capacity. That was lowered to 25 percent, and now the decision has been made to have no fans at all, as coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country.

And, the defending US Open tennis champion, Rafael Nadal, has decided to skip the upcoming Grand Slam tournament this year because of the pandemic, saying he’d rather not travel. The US Open is set to begin August 31st in Queens, New York.
