Accolades For SU Football, Nats Sign Gomes & Hendrick, Caps Tonight
On the Shenandoah University Sports scene:
Hornet wide receiver Casey Stewart has been named a finalist for the Lanier Award. Stewart will join the finalists at a banquet held by the Touchdown Club of Richmond this Sunday. The senior led the ODAC this season with 1191 yards on 70 catches. The Lanier Award is presented to the top D-2, D-3, NAIA player in Virginia.
Meanwhile, senior Nate Hill was named D3football.com All South Region
second team. The Hornet safety is the all-time SU career interceptions leader with 18.
The Washington Nationals have agreed to terms on a 2-year contract with catcher Yan Gomes and a 1-year contract with a mutual option for 2021 with infielder Howie Kendrick. Gomes returns to the Nats after hitting 12 homers and driving in 43 runs last year. The 36 year-old Kendrick hit .344 last year for the World Series Champs.
The Washington Capitals return to the ice tonight when they entertain the Boston Bruins at Capital One Arena. The Caps are coming off a 5-2 loss to Columbus, but remain atop the NHL’s point standings. The Bruins lead the league’s Atlantic Division.
In the NBA, the Wizards fell to Charlotte last night 114-107.
