Hokies Upset Duke, WVU Wins 3 OT Game, Caps Rout Senators
On the Shenandoah University sports scene, men’s lacrosse hosts Albright at 4, while women’s lacrosse entertains McDaniel at 7.
In college hoop last night, Virginia Tech upset number-3 Duke in Blacksburg 77-72. Kerry Blackshear, Jr. led the number-20 Hokies with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Ty Outlaw hit a big 3-pointer, as Tech improved to 22-6, and 11-5 in the ACC. Duke, playing without it’s star freshman Zion Williamson, fell to 24-4, and 12-3 in the ACC.
The WVU Mountaineers broke a 5-game losing streak with a 104-96 triple-overtime win over TCU last night. West Virginia got a 25-point performance from freshman Jordan McCabe, and true freshman Derek Culver added 22 points and 21 boards, as WVU won only it’s 3rd Big 12 game of the season. WVU is now 11-17 overall, and 3-12 in the conference.
The second-ranked Virginia Cavaliers host Georgia Tech tonight in an ACC matchup. Tip off is at 7pm in Charlottesville.
The Washington Capitals exploded for 4 goals in the second period in a 7-2 rout of the Ottawa Senators. TJ Oshie lit the lamp twice for Washington, which climbed back into a first-place tie with the Islanders in the NHL’s Metro Division. The Caps and Islanders meet Friday in New York. Air time is 6:45 on Sports Radio 1450.
