New Year Bowl Results, SU Hoop Tonight, Holgorsen Leaves WVU…

Shenandoah University basketball returns to action tonight as the Hornet men and women hit the road. The women will be at Ferrum for a 7pm ODAC tip, while the men will make a shorter trip to Eastern Mennonite. Air time for that game is 6:45 on the River 95-3.

In yesterday’s New Year’s Day college football bowl games:
Texas upset Georgia in the Sugar Bowl 28-21, as the Longhorn defense held the Bulldogs to just 72 yards rushing.

Ohio State sent Urban Meyer into retirement with a 28-23 win over Washington in the Rose Bowl.

LSU ended UCF’s 25-game winning streak by beating the Knights 40-32 in the Fiesta Bowl.

In other bowl action yesterday:
Kentucky beat Penn State in the Citrus, 27-24
and Iowa outlasted Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl 27-22

Multiple sources have confirmed that WVU football coach Dana Holgorsen is leaving that program for the head coaching job at the University of Houston. Holgorsen was 61-41 at WVU. The search for new
head coach in Morgantown begins immediately. The leading candidate seems to be Neal Brown of Troy.

And, the Washington Capitals are back on the ice tomorrow when they head to St. Louis to skate against the Blues. Air time is 7:45 on WFTR.
