Area Hoop Scoreboard, SU Women Rout ‘Hawks, Caps Beat Isles
In area boys basketball last night Strasburg crushed Luray 61-18, Manassas Park nipped Warren County 61-59, and Central beat Brentsville 51-43. In girls hoop, Warren County routed Manassas Park 71-35, Brentsville defeated Central 40-28, and Stonewall stopped Strasburg 43-34.
The Shenandoah University women used a strong third period to power past St. Mary’s of Maryland 81-59 last night at the Wilkins Center. The Hornets broke open the contest with a 21-10 third stanza to even their record at 1-1. SU dominated inside, outscoring the Seahawks 50-12 in the paint, and out-rebounding St. Mary’s 49-22. Sarah Sondrol led the Hornets with 19 points, while Ragan Johnson added 17.
In college hoop tonight, number-20 Virginia Tech plays at Notre Dame. Tip off is at 7.
The undermanned Washington Capitals nipped the New York Islanders last night 3-2. Justin Schultz scored the game-winner with just 27 seconds to go as the Caps improved to 4-0-3.
