SU Suspends Fall Sports, Nats Hold Off O’s, NFL Scraps Preseason
Shenandoah University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Bridget Lyons, announced yesterday that the university is suspending athletic competition until January 1, 2021. The decision was made in conjunction with yesterday’s decision by the ODAC Presidents Council to postpone conference regular season and championship competition through December 31st of this year. Plans are being formulated to conduct ODAC championship competition in the Spring for the affected Fall sports that do not have a second-semester competition component. Those sports include football, field hockey, men & women’s soccer, and volleyball.
The Washington Nationals beat the Baltimore Orioles in MLB exhibition
baseball last night 6-4, in a rain-shortened 7-inning contest. Howie Kendrick had a 2-run double to lead the Nats, who open the regular season tomorrow night against the New York Yankees. First pitch is 7:08 from Nationals Park on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
And, the NFL, as expected, had scrapped all preseason games for the upcoming season. Owners had originally wanted to reduce the number of preseason games from 4 to 2, but the Players Association wanted no preseason games. Meanwhile 59 players have tested positive for the coronavirus as of yesterday.
