Error-Prone Nats Lose Again, Marlins Season Suspended, NHL Camps Begin
The Washington Nationals are now 1-4 after committing 2 more errors, and getting only 4 hits in a 5-1 loss to Toronto last night. Second baseman Starlin Castro was charged with both Nats’ miscues in a game that saw former National Tanner Roark hold his old team to just 1 run and 3 hits over 5 innings. The Nats and Jays play again tonight in DC. Air time is 5:35 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
MLB has suspended the Miami Marlins’ season through Sunday after an outbreak of coronavirus on the team. That means that the Nats’ games with Miami this weekend will not take place. The Orioles contest wit the Marlins tonight has been postponed.
The NHL began playing exhibition games yesterday. The tune-up contests will be played over 3 days, with each team playing just one exhibition game before the season resumes on Saturday. The NHL is using a bubble format, with all Eastern Conference games being played in Toronto, and all Western Conference games in Edmonton. The Capitals play for real Monday against Tampa.
And, with NFL training camps, there was news yesterday of players opting out of the season. Players who opt out will get a $150,000 stipend if it’s voluntary, and $350,000 if it’s for pre-existing medical reasons.
