VBL Playoff Update…Nats Comeback Falls Short…O’s Win
In the Valley Baseball League playoffs last night:
Woodstock grabs game one of their semifinal series with Strasburg with an 18-7 win. A deciding first-round game 3 between Covington at Charlottesville was postponed. That will be played tonight in C’Ville. Also tonight, it’s game 2 of the Strasburg-Woodstock semifinal, as the Express try to stave off elimination. Tonight’s game will be hosted by the River Bandits.
The Atlanta Braves cruised to an 11-1 lead, and then held on to beat the Washington Nationals 11-8 last night to even the 3-game series.
The Braves touched up Nat’s starter Eric Fedde for 9 runs in just 3 and 2/3 innings, but had to withstand late home runs by Yan Gomes and Juan Soto to earn the win. The Nationals, now 5 1/2 games back of the Braves in the NL East, will go for the series win this afternoon in DC. Air time is 11:35 on Sports Radio 1450.
The Baltimore Orioles overcame deficits of 4-0 and 5-3 to beat the San Diego Padres 8-5 yesterday. The O’s posted 2 runs in the 7th inning and 3 more in the 8th to pick up just their 36th win of the season. The Birds are off today before hosting Toronto tomorrow night.
The MLB trade deadline is today, as buyers and sellers make deals to help their clubs in the present and the future.
