Tide Tops First CFP Ranking, College Football & Basketball Cancelations, NFL Turkey Day Sked
The first College Football Playoff ranking of the season was released last night, with Alabama topping the list. Rounding out the top four are Notre Dame, Clemson, and Ohio State. The top four teams will compete for the National Championship, with number-one playing number-four, and number-two taking on number-three. The National Championship game will be held January 11 in Miami.
The college basketball season begins today, but the opening week has already been disrupted by the pandemic. Number-nine Duke, number-two Baylor, and the number-three UConn women are just a few of the teams that have canceled games.
This Saturday’s scheduled football game between Wisconsin and Minnesota has been canceled due to positive coronavirus cases in Minnesota’s program. The game will not be rescheduled and will be ruled a no contest. That ends the longest uninterrupted series in FBS history, with the two teams having played for 113 consecutive years.
And, the NFL takes center stage on Thanksgiving Day. The full plate of football begins at 12:30 with the Detroit Lions hosting the Houston Texans. At 4:30, the NFC East lead is on the line when Washington visits Dallas. And tomorrow evening, the Baltimore Ravens take on the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.
