Jones Earns POM For SU, Rendon & Scherzer Finalists, CFB Rankings
Shenandoah University Field Hockey midfielder Kelsey Jones has been honored as ECAC Player Of The Month in selections announced yesterday by the league. Jones led the Hornets to a 6-1 record on October with 3 goals and 13 assists. SU, the second seed in the upcoming ODAC tournament, has a semi-final game on Friday versus the winner of the W&L and Bridgewater contest.
Meanwhile, the Hornet Women’s Soccer team heads to Virginia Beach this afternoon for ODAC quarterfinal action against the third-seed Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan. Match time is 3:30.
SU Men’s Basketball tips off Friday night, when they travel to Mary Washington. Air time from Fredericksburg is 6:40 pm on The River 95-3.
On the college hardwoods last night:
Virginia Tech opened with a 67-60 win over Clemson.
Number-11 Virginia plays at Syracuse tonight at 9.
The season’s first College Football Playoff Rankings are out and Ohio State is number-1, followed by LSU, Alabama, and Penn State. All are unbeaten at 8-0. Undefeated Clemson is on the outside looking in at number 5.
And, it’s awards time for Major League Baseball, and several Washington Nationals are in the conversation. Anthony Rendon is a finalist for NL MVP, while Max Scherzer is one of 3 finalists for the NL Cy Young Award.
