Nats Take Game 1, SU Scoreboard, Caps Burn Flames
The underdog Washington Nationals took a 1-0 lead in their first-ever World Series last night with a 5-4 nailbiter in Houston. After the Astros took an early 2-0 lead against Max Scherzer, the Nats answered with home runs from Ryan Zimmerman and Juan Soto to tie the game, then took the lead in the 5th inning on an RBI single from Adam Eaton and a 2-run double by Soto. Scherzer gave way to the Washington bullpen in the 6th, and Sean Doolittle recorded a 4-out save to lock down the win. The Nationals and Astros play game 2 tonight, with Stephen Strasburg goes aginst Justin Verlander. Air time is 7pm on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
On the Shenandoah University scoreboard, Volleyball defeated Mary Baldwin 3-2. Today, Women’s Soccer hosts Virginia Wesleyan at 6, and Men’s Soccer plays at Lynchburg at 7. Football returns home this Saturday to host Emory & Henry. You can hear the action starting at 12:30 on The River 95-3.
And, John Carlson scored 2 goals, including an empty-netter, as the Washington Capitals beat the Calgary Flames 5-3 last night. Alex Ovechkin also lit the lamp for the Caps, who sit atop the NHL’s Metro Division. The Caps continue their road trip tomorrow night in Edmonton. Air time is 8:45 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
