A Curly “L” For The Nats, Braves Stop O’s, Caps Hire New Head Coach
Tampa Bay collected 11 hits and 5 Rays’ pitchers combined to pitch 1-run baseball in a 6-1 Tampa Bay win over the Nationals last night. The Nats are now 17-29 and mired in the basement of the NL East. Carter Kieboom and Luis Garcia each had 2 hits for the Nats, who take on the Rays again this afternoon. Air time is 12:40 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
One night removed from scoring 14 runs, The Baltimore Orioles were shut down by the Atlanta Braves 5-1. Six Braves hurlers held the O’s to just 4 hits on the night. Freddie Freeman led the Braves’ attack with a 3-for-5 night. The two teams wrap up the series tonight at 7:35.
And, the Washington Capitals have hired Peter Laviolette as their new head coach. Laviolette, who won a Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, replaces Todd Reirden. Under Reirden, the Caps bowed out of the playoffs in the first round the last 2 years. Laviolette was fired by Nashville in January after 5 1/2 seasons.
