Nats Walk Off Mets, SU Cancels Football Opener, Serena Rolls
The Shenandoah University Hornets have cancelled Saturday’s football opener with Methodist. Because of the threat posed by Hurricane Dorian, the Monarchs have closed their Fayetteville, NC campus this week, thus cancelling all athletic activities. The Hornet’s will now open the 2019 season with a trip to NC Wesleyan next Saturday. Air time is scheduled for 11:30am on The River 95-3.
Down 10-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th, the Washington Nationals posted 7 runs to walk off the New York Mets 11-10 last night. The Nats strung together 6 consecutive hits in the inning, including key hits from Trea Turner, Juan Soto, and Ryan Zimmerman, before Kurt Suzuki’s 3-run homer completed the improbable comeback.
The Nationals and Mets complete the 3-game series this afternoon in DC. Air time is 12:35 on Sports Radio 1450.
The Orioles split a doubleheader with the Rays yesterday, winning the afternoon game 4-2 before falling 2-0 in the nightcap. the 2 teams play again tonight at 7:10 in Tampa.
At the US Open, Serena Williams rolled into the semis in dominating fashion, while 3rd seed Roger Federer was ousted by unseeded Grigor Dimitrov in 5 sets. Number 2-seed Rafael Nadal plays a quarterfinal match today.
And, Clemson and Alabama remain 1-2 in the latest AP College Football Poll. Georgia, Oklahoma, and Ohio State round out the top 5, while Virginia remains just out of the top 25.
