Nats Sweep Rays, O’s Rout Mets, Osaka Advances At US Open
The Washington Nationals completed a 2-game sweep of the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays with a 5-3 win last night in DC. Anibal Sanchez pitched 5 innings of 3-run, 4-hit baseball to pick up his second win of the season. Left fielder Brock Holt led a balanced nats attack by going 2-for-4, and is now hitting .600 in his last 5 games. The Nationals have today off before starting a 4-game series with the Atlanta Braves tomorrow. Air time is 5:35 on CBS Sports radio 1450.
The Baltimore Orioles pounded out 14 hits on their way to an 11-2 rout of the New York Mets. The Birds were led by center fielder Cedrick Mullins’ 3 hits, while 5 other O’s had 2 apiece. The Orioles try to get to the .500 mark against the Mets tonight at 7:10.
And, 4-seed Naomi Osaka of Japan advanced on the women’s side of the US Open tennis tournament with a quarterfinal victory over American Shelby Rogers. American Jennifer Brady won her quarterfinal match.
