State Police Issue Blue Alert After Shootout

18 February 2019 Luray/Page County Shenandoah County Front Royal/Warren County Winchester Frederick County Clarke County News

The Virginia State Police have issued a state-wide Blue Alert for an armed and dangerous man after a Saturday (2/16/2018) shootout.

25-year-old Donquale Maurice Gray is wanted for attempted capital murder of a police officer after shooting and wounding an officer of the Bluefield Police Department. The incident occurred at 11:45 p.m. Saturday night, when Gray and an adult male driver were pulled over near Exit 3 while traveling east on Route 460 in a blue Toyota Yarris. Sometime after they were stopped, Gray shot his weapon, striking the officer who had pulled him over. Both the wounded officer and another who had come to assist with the stop returned fire, causing the driver to surrender and exit the vehicle. Gray moved to the driver’s side of the hatchback and drove away; the car was found abandoned hours later in Bluefield, West Virginia, and he is now believed to be on foot.

Gray is six-foot-one, weighs 185 pounds, and is black with brown eyes and black hair. Anyone with information is asked to call the Bluefield Police Department at 276-326-2621. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
