Strasburg Fire Will Take New Approach to Discipline
13 July 2018 News
Months after a scandal emerged in which members of the Strasburg Fire Department were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, including former Fire Chief Dale King, the department is now likely looking at a new set of guidelines for handling discipline.
After a Thursday vote, Strasburg Town Manager Wyatt Pearson will rewrite Fire Department bylaws, contingent on the town attorney’s approval. These bylaws would create a committee made up of the president, vice president, fire chief and assistant chief that handles discipline within the department, as well as ensures a fair recourse process for anyone accused of conduct unbecoming of a member. Pearson was quoted as saying that the potential for conflicts of interest within the committee will be limited by this new balance of power.
