Strasburg Gateway Trail Project nearing completion
Construction on the Strasburg Gateway Trail Project is nearing completion. The pedestrian trail network will connect the commercial district around the Route 11/I-81 Interchange with the downtown area and the residential developments along Route 11. The first trail section will connect the existing sidewalk on North Massanutten Street to the Food Lion shopping center. Prior to the project, many residents used the unimproved corridor to walk between home, work and shopping destinations and so the town decided to improve its function, safety and character.
Work on the project started in September of 2019 and was done by G. B. Foltz Contracting Inc. The only work remaining is completing sidewalk installation to tie the improvements into the town’s existing pedestrian network and some minor stormwater improvements.
The project’s contractual completion date is April 20 but Town Manager Wyatt Pearson says he expects it to be finished sooner than that.
