Strasburg honors Juneteenth

Strasburg Town Council voted to make Jun. 18 a paid holiday for town staff in honor of Juneteenth.
The date is recognized as the day the last slaves in America were freed in 1865.
Jun. 18 was chosen as a holiday as June 19 falls on a Sat. this year.
The Strasburg Museum hopes to open a display on the town’s historic black schools on July 4 weekend.
