Earlier this week, the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance, in conjunction with the research firm Public Opinion Strategies, released the results of a poll of 500 registered voters living along the I-81 corridor.
The Monday survey found that nearly nine in 10 voters from the I-81 corridor support a $2 billion investment in the highway for needed improvements, and that 69 percent say those improvements should be approved in 2019. Almost half of those surveyed gave the interstate a D or F ranking, and more than half don’t feel safe on the highway. According to a release from the VTCA, a late November report they conducted illustrated how a $2 billion investment in I-81 improvement could stimulate $4.3 billion in business activity along the corridor in both rural and urban areas.
