SVFD fight a destructive poultry fire deemed a total loss

The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) reports that they responded to a poultry house fire just past 4 a.m. Mar. 27.
The fire occurred at Pine Grove Farm on Pine Grove Road about 4 miles southeast of Stanley.
Upon arrival firefighters found the middle of the building on fire and spreading toward both ends of the structure.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire but it did cause damage to a nearby home.
The poultry house contained 15,500 chickens that were being grown for Shenandoah Valley Organic.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation with preliminary indications pointing to the area where gas entered the building.
The building housing the chickens was deemed a total loss with damage estimated at $500,000 that included the loss of the chickens.
No human injuries were reported with six units responding taking approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately three hours to ensure the fire was completely out.
The Stanley owner of the building had it insured.
