Severe Weather Awareness Week in Virginia is in progress

Virginia’s Severe Weather Awareness week is in progress through Friday, March 8 and the Offices of Emergency Management across the region are promoting severe weather safety.

While the region hasn’t seen a tornado for quite some time one did hit close within the last 7 years.

Virginians are being asked to take some time and get yourself and the family prepared should a warning be issued.

Plan out where you would go and how the family should reconnect in an emergency.

The statewide tornado drill has been moved this year to Thursday, March 7 at 9:45 a.m.

All schools, businesses, workplaces, and families across the state are strongly encouraged to participate in the drill.

Safety tips and registration for the drill is available here.
