FCSO reports the discovery of human remains

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) report the discovery of human remains April 29.

Deputies and search and rescue personnel recovered the remains of a male human in a densely wooded area between Star Tannery Road and North Pifer Road in Frederick County.

The remains are being examined by the state Medical Examiner to determine cause of death and a positive identification.

The remains are believed to be those of Jason Diego Abarca.

Abarca was believed to be involved in a carjacking incident in the City of Winchester December 13, 2023.

The carjacked vehicle was found crashed and abandoned on Star Tannery Road with Abarca’s wallet and identification inside later that same day.

Searchers were unable to find any sign of Abarca after the discovery of the vehicle at that time.

Frederick County Sheriff Lenny Millholland confirmed that the Abarca family have been notified that a body was recovered with identification pending.

Sheriff Millholland went on to say that his office will provide whatever assistance necessary to get answers in the investigation.
