Shenandoah National Park will celebrate National Go Fishing Day tomorrow at 9:00 am at the Big Meadows Visitors Center.

The holiday is dedicated to simply taking a break from your daily routine to bait a hook and set a line.

For this year’s celebration, Shenandoah National Park is partnering with Project Healing Waters, an organization dedicated to the emotional and physical rehabilitation of disabled active duty and veteran military members through fly fishing, for an interactive fishing demonstration.

Park Rangers will also have Junior Ranger Angle booklets for kids with badges available for completed activities.

The activities are free with no registration required.

Middletown 4th of July parade seeks women veterans

christmas parade canceled

The Town of Middletown is searching for female veterans and active duty military members to be recognized during their upcoming 4th of July parade.

Virginia is the home of 109,000 women veterans, the largest per capita of any state.

The Commonwealth was also one of the first states to acknowledge the unique challenges and opportunities faced by women veterans as they transition to civilian life by being one of the first to create a Women Veterans Program.
