State Police still investigating cold case on anniversary

Virginia State Police are still investigating the disappearance and murder of a woman 28 years ago today along U.S. 29 in Culpeper County.

Alicia Showalter Reynolds, 25, was driving from Baltimore to Charlottesville on March 2. According to witnesses, her white Mercury Tracer was seen along with a white man of medium build driving a dark-colored pickup truck. Her remains were found about two months later near Lignum, state police said in an email Friday.

In the wake of the disappearance, several other women came forward and said a white male had either stopped them or tried to stop them while they were driving on U.S. 29. In all, state police said they have received more than 10 thousand leads in the case.
