Fun Fact November 5, 2021.

You may have seen this on social media, the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal welcomed a litter of cheetahs recently.  Five year old Rosalie gave birth to five healthy cubs on October 12.  The father, Nick, was the first cheetah cub to be born at the SCBI ten years ago.  SCBI, the National Zoo’s research facility, is one of ten cheetah breeding centers across the country working to improve the North American cheetah population. It’s estimated that there are only roughly 7300 cheetahs remaining in the wild, and the species is classified as vulnerable to extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.  You may be able to catch a glimpse of the new cubs via a webcam.  Search SBCI cheetah cam.  There are other webcams for other animals as well.
